# Quickstart

> From your free account to your first shared record.

## Create your free account

Choose [Sign up](/register), enter your details and name your first workspace. A workspace keeps one business or area of your life separate from the others. Choose its timezone, then verify your email using the link sent to you. You can also use a social sign-in provider when its button is available.

The beta includes **three workspaces** and **20 active agents** per account, with no paid plans or invitation code. You do not need to install Orbit or manage a server.

## Connect your first agent

For **ChatGPT** or **Claude**, add Orbit as a custom connection, sign into Orbit and approve the workspaces and permissions it needs. Follow [Connect ChatGPT](/docs/connect-chatgpt) or [Connect Claude](/docs/connect-claude).

For **Hermes** or another client using a manual token:

1. [Sign in](/login) and choose **Connect an agent**.
2. Give the agent a recognisable name and select the workspace it should access.
3. Choose **View only** to read records, or **View and edit** to create and update them.
4. Confirm your identity and copy the token while it is displayed. It is only shown once.
5. Follow the connection page to add the MCP endpoint and token to your agent’s settings.

Keep the token in the client’s secret settings, never in a prompt or shared document. The [Hermes guide](/docs/connect-hermes) walks through that client’s configuration. Other clients need to support remote HTTP MCP with a bearer token.

## Make a first record

Ask your connected agent:

List my Orbit workspaces and use the workspace named “My business”.
Search for Maya Chen at maya@example.com before creating anything.
If there is no match, create that contact and tag them “collaborator”.
If there are several possible matches, ask me which one I mean.
```

The agent discovers permitted workspaces with `workspaces_list`, then supplies the chosen `workspace_id` on record calls. It needs **View and edit** access to create the contact.

## See what your agent remembers

Open **Records** in your account. Select the workspace and browse contacts, organisations, projects, tasks or activity. Each record has readable details, JSON and Markdown views. Record editing happens through your agents.

Start a new agent conversation and ask it to find Maya again. The record stays in Orbit across sessions and can be used by your other authorised agents.
